The Catalyst model: consult,
convene and campaign

Climate change is the greatest challenge we face as humanity. An incredible array of leaders has already driven this issue up the public and political agenda and secured countless wins towards a safer future. We celebrate this. But we also know that more is needed – and that time is running out.

We are stronger than the sum of our parts. At Climate Catalyst we want to strengthen the existing work taking place in the climate community by acting as a convenor and collaborator, connecting organisations to achieve more ambitious outcomes than would be possible acting alone.

We focus on impact. Our three-step catalyst model brings together diverse actors to build campaign strategies that draw on the power of all those involved. We work to unlock effective influencing strategies, provide opportunities for shared learning and foster cross-sectoral relationships.

What you can expect when working with us:

  • Consult

We work with a broad range of stakeholders to identify specific campaign opportunities and to create the conditions for convening in these areas.

  • Convene

We bring together a broad group of actors with common interest to design a potential campaign, learn together and build relationships.

  • Campaign

We add value through creative and agile campaign strategy, grants and other forms of support to our national and international partners, engaging new organisations to build power and accelerate change, and bring organisations together to share learnings.

Our current campaigns

We focus on a select number of issues each year where there is the greatest potential for impact. We work to develop innovative and agile campaigns which play to our partners’ strengths to secure the decisive change we need. Following a period of consultation, we choose to initially focus on steel decarbonisation in Asia and peatland restoration and preservation in Europe.

All our campaign opportunities will emerge from our consulting and convening stages. They must meet the following criteria:

  • The potential for substantial emissions reductions.

  • There is an urgent need to secure immediate and impactful changes in public policy.

  • There is a high potential to mobilise diverse actors to achieve shared objectives.
